We move into a new phase

by nandeep

We are 9 Circuits. We started an year ago with the aim of bringing high quality electronic components to India and enabling people to easily use this hardware. This venture was started due to our own frustration of not being able to procure the items that we needed. We also noticed that a large number of people were not aware of the wide variety of components available that make their task easier. We found the need. And we kick started to fulfill this need.

We have learnt quite a bit on this journey. Our sales were just enough to sustain us and give us time to learn a lot about the components that we are selling and how we can enable people to use them. Our efforts were solely directed at analyzing the Indian market requirements and needs of hobbyists, students and enthusiasts.

This research of ours has led to several developments at 9 Circuits which I shall outline below:

  • We will now be moving our focus from being a retailer to a product company. We are planning to release at least a dozen tiny products that we have developed seeing the customers needs and most required softwares/toolchains/boards that have not been made by anyone else. All our products will be open source, hardware and software both! Stay tuned to see what goodies we unleash upon the electronics world.
  • All that we have learnt in this domain will be released as open content and provide all knowledge for free. We owe where we are to all the great content out there. We plan to do the same.
  • We also noticed that there is a big workshop culture in India. Almost everything is being taught in overpriced workshops which doesn’t make sense considering all the information is available out there for free. We aim to remove this laziness in people and let them self discover and learn starting with free workshops all over India teaching the basics. Yes, completely free. We will also provide all standard workshop theory material online under an open license. If you are interested in getting one held at your institute/locality/organization you can mail us at contact [at] 9circuits [dot] com.

This is our roadmap for now. Follow our progress through this blog or one of the social networking methods. We wish our best to all folks out there in open hardware!
